I'm a caffeine addict - I start my day with 2 - 3 cups of coffee strong enough to make my spoon stand at attention and sip soda through the rest of the day. When I discovered Soda Stream I felt like a kid in a candy shop - With Soda Stream you can MAKE SODA AT HOME!!! I was jumping for joy when I was offered the chance o review the Soda Stream Fountain Jet Starter Kit.

The Fountain Jet Starter Kit would be perfect for any teen on your list, and would also be an awesome unique gift for the entire family. It is a sleek, slim gadget that is easy to use and makes excellent soda. I have mine sitting out on my kitchen counter (I have the black/silver color) and it takes up hardly any room.

Soda Stream is fun and easy to use, and is also good for the environment. With Soda Stream, there are no more empty bottles and cans to recycle and discard.

Soda mixes are available in 25 regular, diet, energy and caffeine-free flavors. Each 500ml soda mix bottle makes the equivalent of 12 liters (about 33 cans!) of soda. Regular soda mix contains no high fructose corn syrup and diet soda mix contains no aspartame. All-natural MyWater flavor essences are unsweetened and calorie-free.

The Fountain Jet arrived neatly packaged and came with an instruction book (English is on page 22). It includes two 1-liter carbonating bottles and a CO2 carbonator bottle. I opened the box top, and pulled out the Fountain Jet. One of the 1-liter bottles was in the front of the machine and the other was in the back of it - where the CO2 goes. The CO2 bottle is nestled securely in the side. I also received 10 full size flavors, the MyWater variety pack (this includes one bottle each of Berry, Lemon-Lime and Orange) as well as the Soda Mix Variety 12 pack.

I quickly inserted the CO2 bottle (remove back panel by pushing the 2 side buttons, slide up through the hole in back, screw in securely and replace the back cover), rinsed my bottles (oh yea, I was doing both) with hot water (these are not dishwasher safe) and called in Brit and Brian. We filled our bottles with cold water, and carefully screwed one into the machine. The top button (you push this for carbonation) had a label that says "Important: Press firmly and quickly release. Repeat until loud buzz. 3 buzzes for average fizz". I had to push about 10 times the first time to get 3 loud buzzes. I don't always get a loud buzz during carbonation, sometimes it's just a quiet one but you can tell it is working because you can actually see the CO2 going in. I like super fizzy soda, so through trial and error I've discovered 6 buzzes are perfect. Brit and I cackled like hyenas as we tried to decide on a flavor. We ended up making 5 bottles (and drinking them all) that first night. We use our machine daily - now instead of being met as I am coming home from work with "What's for dinner" I get "What's for Dinner - can I made soda?" :)

The flavors we received were:
Orange (caffeine free) - tastes just like orange crush. I only need 5 pushes as this gets really really fizzy (yum!).

Pete's Choice - One capful = Sam's choice Dr. Thunder, 1.5 capfuls = Dr. Pepper. This is Brit's favorite (she's a Dr. Pepper fiend).

Fountain Mist - one heavy capful = Mt. Dew. This one is Brian's favorite.

Diet Cola - not sure what brand this one is like. It was surprisingly good though and I drink a lot of it.

Diet Pink Grapefruit - Fresca. This one is my favorite. It's tart and bubbly

Diet Ginger Ale - Canada Dry. This also smells really good.

Energy Drink - Red Bull. I'm not real fond of this one, but to be fair I don't drink energy drinks.

Rootbeer - Tastes a lot like A&W. This one also smells great and is my mom's favorite.

Lemon Lime - Sprite. Light, crisp and bubbly.

Cranberry Raspberry - Light, fruity flavor.
