Monave started as a little seed...a dream to make makeup by hand, with simple ingredients. The seed also had the expectation that the products had to be high-quality, high-performance. Monave didn't want to be just another so-so natural makeup brand. As my little tree grew, so did my dream. (from the Monave website).
Monave's philosophy is simple: We include ingredients that are either beneficial or benign that make our skin look softer and prettier, our eyes brighter, and our lips more smooth. We do not use ingredients whose sole purpose is to improve the look or texture of the product in the jar; that is simply not our mission. So if our liners look handmade, or our powders not so silky as Brand X, that's okay with us! Check out their ingredient list here.
I've been playing with loose powder mineral shadows lately, and loving how I can control the intensity of these! While I find them messier than a pressed powder, they're definitely worth it. Monave offers a fantastic selection of mineral eyeshadows, including cream to powder for eyes and brows, Ultra Mattes for eyes - A palette of neutral pastels to deep smoky tones with a cashmere texture that blends easily on the skin. Ultra mattes for eyes have a soft, feathery look, and unlike other Monave colors for the eyes, have no shimmer or sparkle, and Versatile Mineral Powders - loose mineral powders are a blend of pure, oxidized mica, and are versatile and fun. The texture of the powders range from semi-matte (these impart a light sheen) to shimmer, to full sparkle. All of these beautiful loose powders can be used as eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, and nail polish (please see directions for how to use them). The red, pink, brown and beige tones can also be mixed into a clear gloss and applied to the lips. These are divided by color into eight collections - Sultry, Lips and Cheeks, Fire, Candy, Semi-Matte, Roses, Earth and Beach.
I had the opportunity to try four of Monaves Versatile Mineral Powders (I love products that can multi-task!). I received Rain, Jinx and Ivy from the Sultry Collection, and Gold Salmon from the Candy Collection samples. I love these shadows! They go on sheer and light with one coat, that can easily be amped up with extra coats. Rain is a super deep, smokey blue that has a very light glint; Jinx is a purple brown with lots of glimmer; Ivy is a soft, smokey green with just a hint of shimmer, and the Salmon is a bright, peachy pink with lots of sparkle. My favorite is a tie between the Salmon and Jinx - I love Jinx for a smokey eye, and the Salmon is just plain fun, and lightens my eyes up.
Monave also offers eyeliners - handcrafted with natural plant products and their signature mineral blends. The base of jojoba and natural waxes yields a wonderfully creamy texture that wears all day without smudging. I had the opportunity to try one of their fantastic eyeliners in Deep Sea, a rich turquoise. Their liners are fantastic! It feels a lot like a soft Crayola, and goes on smoothly. I also love that the color is so intense with just one line, I don't have to do multiple coats to build color. Plus, they sharpen nicely. I can get a nice point (I like my pencils dagger sharp) and it doesn't crumble.
