Denises Daily Dozen - Review & Giveaway (& Blog Tour!)

Denise's Daily Dozen
ISBN: 978-1-59995-244-4
$16.99 US / $19.99 Canada

Synopsis (from book):

From Denise Austin comes the perfect health book for anyone who wants to live better but just can't seem to find the time. Much more than just another exercise book, Denise's Daily Dozen covers a whole range of health and diet related concepts yet manages it all in a no-stress, time-conscious program of 12's. At it's core, this book contains the minimum daily requirements to keep the reader flexible, strong and trim. Organized simply into seven chapters, which equal the seven days of the week, it covers a full week in daily allotments. Each day will have it's own focus from Monday being "fat burning day" to Sunday's "recharge and rejuvenate." Denise has created a total body program, including a 7-day balanced meal plan that includes healthy recipes, and a workout that encompasses 12 exercises done in 12 minutes each day. Everyone can take just 12 minutes, at whatever time of the day works for them, and turn it over to these simple and fun exercises. Cardio, toning, yoga and breathing exercises...they're all here but in a way the maximizes effect while minimizing time. Beyond a dozen exercises for each day of the week this book will include many other of Denise's dozens for each day.

My main goal this year is to lose the rest of the weight, every pound. I made a fantastic start in 2009 and dropped 35 pounds by NOT dieting. No fads, no points, no restricting food groups. I was fed up, and tired, and decided to do it my way. I cut the junk out of my daily eating, but if I really wanted that brownie, I had it. I sat down and enjoyed every bite, then cleared my plate and brushed my teeth. Funny, but once I stopped saying "no, you can't have junk it'll make you fatter" and started saying "yes, but you're going to sit down and actually enjoy it" my sugar tooth fell out. I haven't had ice cream in 6 months, and I don't miss it. No more daily cookie binge. Now, once a week is plenty to satisfy any sugary cravings. I also drink lots of water - 2 servings for every Diet Coke I guzzle (I'm well over the recommend 64 oz of water a day thanks to that :). I eat vegetables and fruit for dessert, and keep plenty of yogurt in the fridge for a quick and easy snack. My energy is up, and I'm starting to feel good about my looks again. I almost cried last month when I was able to purchase a top from the ladies department :) I'm down 2 full sizes in tops, and one full size in pants.

Plus, the better I eat, the better my family eats. Brian and Brit have both been snacking on yogurt, nibbling on fresh fruit, and eating more veggies with dinner. Brit doesn't need to lose weight as she's perfect, but I love seeing her eating healthy, knowing her growing body is getting plenty of the essential nutrients she needs to grow.

When I found the opportunity to review and host a giveaway for Denise Austin's Daily Dozen through my membership with The Product Review Place, I was ecstatic. Denise Austin has many wonderful exercise videos and an online weightloss program to help you lose weight. During more than 25 years promoting health and fitness, Denise has created 82 workout videos or DVDs. Her enormous number of sales led to her 2003 induction into the Video Hall of Fame.

Denise's Daily Dozen is organized into seven chapters - one for each day of the week and includes a healthy meal plan (I won't follow this, as I tend to rebel on eating plans), simple recipes (these all look really good, and I'm looking forward to trying them!), and fully illustrated , total body workout of twelve simple and fun exercises you can do in just 12 minutes. I've been adding these in with my daily walk (OK, not so daily now that we're buried under snow and ice, but whenever the temp is above frost bite potential and the sidewalks aren't a skating rink :) and I can definitely feel them.

  2. One thing that has really helped me is having a big smoothie for breakfast in the morning. I make mine with fat free yogurt and frozen fruit. It fills you up so you won't snack before lunch, and it gives you lots of natural energy!

Not only do I get fairly regular exercise taking care of it (and remodeling part of it), but I also get all the wonderful, fresh, healthy and tasty fruits and veggies from it!
