Located in the panhandle of Texas, Amarillo is the home of Mixes From The Heartland, Inc. (MFTH) and the birthplace of an entirely new line of Gluten Free Mixes - Food products. MFTH will soon explode onto the market where we will have a revolutionary new line of Gluten Free Mixes and Sugar Free Mixes /Gluten Free Mixes -Food products. (from website)
I recently had the chance to try several mixes from Mixes from the Heartland, who offers more than 300!! gluten free mixes and food products. What attracted me to them were the ease of creating a complete meal, and that each mix is healthy. Each mix prepares enough for a whole family, which was very impressive. I try to avoid a lot of shortcut meal options as they all seem to be full of preservatives, salt and calories, but Mixes from the Heartland were nutritious, and you add your own fresh ingredients so it seems more like a made from scratch meal.
Another thing I love about Mixes from the Heartland is that each mix is free from the most common allergens, a real bonus as Brit has several friends with peanut allergies.
I received my mixes on a Monday (perfect timing :) and prepared two of them for dinner - Texas Goulash and Impossible Coconut Pie for dessert. The Texas Goulash was simple to fix, and was delicious, though it did pack quite a spicy kick. The Impossible Coconut Pie was even easier to prepare, and was rich and a real treat. The Goulash made enough for two meals (we're a family of 3), and the pie mix makes 2 full pies, making MFTH economical too. I've also fixed the Upside Down Cake, another great treat that you add fresh apples (or another fruit of your choice) to. I have a few mixes left to try, and I love knowing I have these on hand for those super busy nights.
